Resources for Learning About Digital Citizenship

Kobe K-12 Library’s statement of responsibility:

We believe schools, families and communities all have a responsibility to provide safe online environments and to teach children how to use technology in positive and productive ways. The Kobe K-12 Library will uphold the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior regarding the use of digital technologies in school. Digital citizenship includes appropriate online etiquette, literacy for how digital technologies work and how to use them, and understanding of ethics, knowing how to stay safe online, and knowledge about online safety and data permanence.

How Can We Stay Safe Online?

In this interactive Padlet, students in Grade 5 are invited to participate in a conversation about online safety as part of their unit on digital citizenship. A Padlet is essentially a digital notice board and it features images, links, videos, and documents, all together in one place on a "wall".

Something for Everyone

Digital Etiquette & Online Friendship

Learn about how to use your best manners and behavior online and how to cultivate healthy friendships online, too, by using these Google Slides with embedded BrainPop and PearDeck content.

This lesson is geared toward a 4th Grade audience. With Google Slides, you can build presentations right in your web browser—no special software is required. Also, multiple people can work on slides at the same time, you can see people's changes as they make them, and every change is automatically saved.

Social Media & Cyberbullying

In this interactive NearPod presentation, secondary students learn lessons about the appropriate use of social media and how to identify cyberbullying.  Nearpod is an online tool that allows teachers to use slide-based teaching in the classroom and remotely using lots of different interactive learning resources.  Embedded quizzes and open-ended questions help students to engage and learn via their device or a single screen in the classroom.
